In partnership with the Ministry of Safety and Security, in particular the Namibian Correctional Service, Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) – a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group – on Thursday, 28 June 2018 launched a TV Commercial to air on local television, in support of NBL’s commitment to promoting responsible drinking, and curbing the high number of road accidents, and fatality rate on Namibian roads.
The TV Commercial ‘If you are going to drink and drive, welcome to your new life’ produced by O&L Advertising Agency, Weathermen & Co speaks to the harsh reality of the repercussions of driving under the influence of alcohol. At the launch attended by officers and representatives of the Namibian Correctional Service, and other stakeholders driving the National Road Safety agenda, Managing Director of NBL, Wessie van der Westhuizen expressed concern about the many innocent lives lost due to the irresponsible decisions of individuals. Van der Westhuizen: “Often these accidents are related to alcohol, however I want us to challenge our thinking and ask: Is it really only alcohol, or is it the irresponsible decisions and poor choices we make? This national catastrophe begs a change of mind-set, behavior and attitude of motorists and other road-users. The TV Commercial also aims to emphasize how the act of driving under the influence of alcohol has a detrimental and sad outcome on the lives of our fellow Namibians, as well as our loved ones. I am very proud that we could work together with the Ministry of Safety and Security – more specifically the Namibian Correctional Service to present to you NBL’s latest initiative and contribution to curb drunk driving.”
Commissioner-General Hamunyela who represented the Namibian Correctional Service at the launch regards the TV Commercial as a powerful tool in curbing irresponsible behavior. He applauded NBL for the initiatives and commitment to promoting the responsible use of alcohol.
Van der Westhuizen: “The TV Commercial by NBL with the support of the Namibian Correctional Service is the epitome of not only what the repercussions of one’s irresponsible decisions have on the lives of others, but also what impact it can have on one. Thank you also to government, and more specifically the Ministry of Safety and Security for allowing us to make use of the correctional facility to shoot this AD. Thank you for your guidance and advice, and for your highly valued input that contributed significantly to the successful production. I am confident, and have faith that this initiative will contribute immensely to the hearts and minds of each and every one that sees this AD, and that it will challenge our thinking, behavior, and the decisions we make.”
The TV Commercial – ‘If you are going to drink and drive, welcome to your new life’ – will air on NBC and One Africa Television (OATV) as of July 2018. Herewith the link to the AD https://youtu.be/mc3C6XIJNaY
